Reading fiction is a great way to take a break from the real world and dive into the character’s life. It might sound weird to non readers, but certain characters from books are an inspiration for the bookworms. They are so real that the readers feel they have a relationship with these characters. Reading fiction has certain benefits too ― It gives you a better understanding of other’s perspectives and develops your empathy, which is crucial in relationship development. Personally, reading books has been very therapeutic for me.
Sometimes all you need is a good heartwarming story to get you on an emotional roller coaster ride. If you are in a reading slump, or if you want to read a book to lift your spirit, there are five books that I personally find heartwarming.

1. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Unique. Emotional. Surprising. These are the thoughts that cross when I think of the book.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a historical fiction novel about a famous Hollywood icon, Evelyn Hugo decided to give a final interview to an unknown writer, Monique Grant. This tale does involve seven husbands, which sounds like a typical scandal story― but it is much more than that. It is one of the books where the protagonist is so real, it amazingly felt like a biography and not an imaginary story. You would hate Evelyn, hurt for her, and end up being really attached to her. The writer has beautifully dealt with many social issues and other subjects that have made the story both modern and emotional. This book will definitely get you out of the reading slump by the way the story is narrated. So go ahead, give it a try!

2. The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan.
Not many people have read this book, but whoever has read it, absolutely loved it( most of them). The story revolves around a girl named Leigh whose mother suicides. With a magical realism element beautifully executed, this is one of the books that would break your heart and also make you feel hopeful. I loved the character development and the writing style. I also learned about different cultures. If you like magical realism, or you want to try it out, this book is definitely recommended, keeping in mind that this book deals with suicides and depression.

3. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman.
Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine, thank you very much. But I’m not sure if I was after reading it. She has almost the same routine planned out for her everyday with as little human interaction as possible and that’s okay for her, until the day she meets a guy and helps him in rescuing an elderly person. The author has excellently shown tragic and serious issues by describing the events which are funny but sometimes sad. I am glad that the story didn’t go off track and become a romantic novel. This book is going to make you think, laugh and sometimes really sad, but more importantly, it will give you hope.

4. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman.
Meet Ove, a cranky man who points at people whom he dislikes. He rarely ever smiles and has very firm principles and strict routines. He judges people about silly things and it's comical. Neighbours avoid him because of his grumpy nature. However, the more time you spend with him, the more you will understand him. He is one of the most unexpectedly lovable characters I have ever read. Damn, I almost cried and then laughed out loud the very next moment. Throughout the story you would see Ove grow, see him judge less and heal over time in very unlikely circumstances. It is easily one of my favourite books! This is a must read for all the readers, for this book will make you appreciate life.

5. If You Could See Me Now by Cecilia Aherns.
If you could see me now it is about a woman named Elizabeth who is stern and is a very guarded person. She often stays on the safe side of everything and lacks spontaneity in her life. This book is not your typical romance book, and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. If you love imagination and magic, then go ahead! It will make you want to have a friend like Ivan, a character you will meet in the story. The story can be enjoyed by readers from age 15 to 90 years old, because it is so well written. The book taught me sometimes to let things go and have fun. And live to the fullest.

Maybe some of these books are already on your shelves waiting to get picked up. Whether you go to the nearby store/ library to get them or order them online, you wouldn't regret it. Happy reading!
